What it is: Viburnum is a large, diverse group of deciduous shrubs in the honeysuckle household, with handsome leaves and clusters of white flowers.

The common snowball bush is a part of this genus, as is the cranberrybush viburnum (Viburnum trilobum), a difficult species whose red fruit clusters last well into the winter. Shown in the photo is the wayfaring tree viburnum.


It grows 10 to 20 feet tall and wide, and it can be trained as a little tree, utilized as an informal hedge, planted in a combined perennial border or grown as a specimen plant.

Appearance: The hairy, dark green, 2- to 5-inch leaves have a beautiful texture and turn purplish red in the fall. i was reading this Flat, 3- to 5-inch clusters of white flowers appear for two weeks in the spring and become fruits that turn from yellow to red to black. Birds delight in the berries as long as they last.

Growing: Survives up to 8,000 feet in Colorado. As soon as established, viburnums require little to moderate water and can tolerate sun to part shade.
